In January of 2025, Gardens of Asgard was honored to officially be recognized by United Plant Savers as a Botanical Sanctuary within their network. We join more than 300 sanctuaries worldwide that are committed to restoring habitat for native plants and wildlife.
If you've been following our story, you know that the land we reside on was clearcut in the 1980s, a standard logging practice in the State of Maine. However, this commonplace practice creates a level of destruction that wreaks havoc on the ecosystem, and the forest re-grows in an unhealthy way with intense crowding and competition for resources.
As a steward of this land, we are committed to restoring this land, increasing the biodiversity and improving the health our forest. Our commitment to transform our land into a botanical sanctuary reflects our commitment to restore the sacred relationship between people and place and deepen that connection.
We'll be hosting tours and educational workshops in the near future, so stay tuned!
