Our Future
We have some big plans for our future.
Like most New England Forests, land we live on has been ravaged for its resources without reciprocity. The forest also holds a story - a tale of being exploited & over-harvested, and also one of hope. The forest floor leaves hints of many generations of use, their trunks tell a story of young trees forced to grow old before they were ready, competing amongst each other without the resources to thrive. It also shows young trees, eager for an opportunity to grow, an abundance of mosses, lichen, birds, small rodents, deer & more that visit the small stream that weaves through our land.
We plan to restore this land to a healthy, vibrant botanical sanctuary where medicinal herbs grow underneath the canopy of a healthy forest with a thriving wildlife habitat. We plan to build traditional Norwegian Stabbur houses with grass roofs to host workshops & visitors.
In Norse Mythology, Asgard is the realm where the gods & goddesses reside. I imagine they would have the most potent healing herbal remedies & the most bountiful gardens imaginable. On our property, the Gardens of Asgard are situated at a higher elevation. As we slowly work & restore the land we will uncover & create the remaining realms: Alfheim, Jotunheim, Helheim, Midgard, Muspelheim, Niflheim, Svartalfheim & Vanaheim.
It's our hope to share stories of the old ways on this land & make it open for people to come & stay for a visit. It's also a big vision of mine to be able to bring a group of women to Norway, to visit & connect with the homeland, experience the culture & be with the medicinal herbs there.
